Selon un article publié par la revue scientifique Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health dans son numéro de mars 2006, le Civil Partnership, introduit récemment au Royaume-Uni, donnera probablement une plus grande reconnaissance sociale aux couples homosexuels, ce qui permettra aux gays et aux lesbiennes d'avoir une meilleure image d'eux-mêmes. Les homos, victimes d'intolérance et de discriminations, sont particulièrement touchés par la dépression, la toxicomanie et les tendances suicidaires. Selon les auteurs, la reconnaissance et la stabilité apportées par le partenariat leur permettront d'avoir les mêmes avantages en santé mentale et physique que les couples mariés, par rapport aux célibataires.
